A summary of My Foundation's services

MFA employs highly skilled and knowledgeable Myeloma Support Nurses whose main responsibility is to deliver the organisation’s four Primary Programmes to uniformly high standards across Australia.

These programmes include -

Myeloma Telephone Support Line
A national free-call service, providing patients, relatives and carers with ready access to information about myeloma and to relevant referrals and support applicable to their particular situation.
Myeloma Seminars and Workshops
Held in universities, local community halls and treatment centres, providing education and support to empower patients and provide valuable information and fellowship to the myeloma community.
Myeloma Support Groups
Designed to reach out across Australia to those affected by myeloma who currently have inadequate forms of support available to them; the ultimate aim being to help groups form and operate their own support groups with limited stewardship from the myeloma nurses.
Myeloma Education for Health Professionals
Imparting up-to-date information on aspects of treatment, care and management of myeloma patients to haematology, oncology and other health professionals for dissemination to patients and carers

In addition to delivering these four primary programmes MFA provides the following services:

  • A quarterly Newsletter – ‘MyeNews’ – providing up-to-date information about all things relating to myeloma, drawn from MFA’s global sources.
  • Myeloma Information Sheets - relaying important information, mainly about myeloma treatments and their effects.
  • A continuously up-dated web site: www.myeloma.org.au
  • A Medical & Scientific Advisory Group (MSAG), acting as a sub-committee of the Committee of Management to further myeloma treatment and research in Australia.
  • Referrals and linkages for people seeking more information about myeloma.
  • Advocacy – to generate greater myeloma awareness and support.
  • Fellowship – for patients and carers living with myeloma.
  • Access to speakers for medical seminars and patients groups by health professionals and other support organizations.
  • Publications including a Patient Guide and Nurse Learning Manual.
